Find art across the city

The companies and organisations in this section are displaying their Face of the City contribution to the general public. (Please check opening times and date of display)

Look for the Face of the City Charter Mark (image) this will tell you that a workplace has an exhibition or artwork on display. Also look for the word (Public) displayed on the charter mark, this distinguishes it other workplaces who are taking part in the project, but don't have public access.

Artists: Chris Phillips- Photography - Syd Webster - Poetry

Chris  Phillips

Chris Phillips has been Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service’s photographer for “Eleven” years and in this time has captured thousands of images. He has a real love and flair for his work and it is clear from the startling pictures from such varying angles that he loves his job.

“Working in an atmosphere of such camaraderie and humour is a great privilege,” said Chris. “Everyone is equal and that is obvious from the time I arrive to the time I leave.

“I am so lucky to be able to have the unique opportunities with which I am presented. Every fire is different and most photographs are totally natural. I hope you enjoy the exhibition.

Syd  Webster  MBE

Syd Webster served as a Merseyside firefighter for 30 years beginning at NEDS N1 Park Lane, Netherton before moving to Buckley Hill, (now Bootle and Netherton) in 1978. His background is in child education which he became involved with after writing poems for his young daughters, then expanding them to Libraries and schools. He was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty The Queen in the 2000 New Years Honours List for “Fire Education with Children” and received his award in July 2000 at Buckingham Palace. He has written seven books of poetry and was approached by John Roberts (MF&RS) to compose a purpose written piece of prose for each photo of this exhibition.

Syd  is  currently  employed  by  MF&RS  as  a  School  Fire  Liaison  Officer  in  two  of  his  local  High  schools.

“It was a privilege to be asked,” said Syd. “Enjoy the exhibition.”

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is proud to be involved.
